Resuscitation Council UK Accredited Immediate Life Support Course

Immediate Life Support (ILS) was originally developed by Resuscitation Council UK in 2002 and is designed to provide healthcare providers with essential skills for managing patients in cardiac arrest or experiencing other medical emergencies.

Since then it has become the most popular Resuscitation Council UK course with around 100,000 people trained in ILS every year.

The course offers comprehensive training in the treatment of deteriorating patients using the ABCDE approach, as well as managing a cardiac arrest resuscitation, including the use of defibrillators and airway management, until the arrival of a cardiac arrest team or emergency services.

With a comprehensive combination of:

  • Pre-Course Manual
  • Lectures
  • Skill Stations and
  • Cardiac Arrest Simulation Teaching (CASTeach)

the ILS course provides a variety of skills; from managing a deteriorating patient, identifying causes, and effectively treating cardiac arrest, to improving abilities as both a team member and team leader.

The ILS qualification is recognised by the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC), giving you the freedom to use your lifesaving skills in other countries.

During the one-day course, you will develop the skills to:

  • recognise and treat the deteriorating patient using the ABCDE approach.
  • identify the causes and promote the prevention of cardiopulmonary arrest.
  • undertake the skills of quality CPR and defibrillation (manual and /or AED) and simple airway manoeuvres.
  • utilise non-technical skills to facilitate team leadership and effective team membership.
